My new WordPress theme - Block Magazine by Adii
Since I purchased the John Chow dot Com 300×250 $500 banner I thought it would be a good opportunity to change my blog theme. The timing of the whole thing didn´t leave me the option of having a custom theme done like I was planning, so I did the next best thing and purchased a premium WordPress theme.
After looking at several options, including this Solostream theme, I opted for Adii´s Block Magazine theme. The theme cost me $79, but that wasn´t really an issue. I have begun tweaking with the theme to make it more to my liking, but I still have several changes I want to make. Some of the changes I am playing will require Adii´s help since I know nothing about php. Anyway, it is normal that over the next few days you see some changes as I test certain things.
One of the things I wanted was to have an above the fold “Sponsors” section for 125×125 button advertising, since these are so popular among blogs right now. Although the Block Magazine theme did not have a “Sponsors” section, it does allow the flexibility to create one, and that is what I did. If you are interested in having one of these advertising spots they are only $15 at the moment, which should prove an excellent deal considering the extra traffic from the John Chow banner.
One of the things I like most about the Block Magazine theme is the tabbed sidebar with the recent posts, most popular, and the most commented sections. I still don´t have the most commented tab active since I have not yet installed the required plugin.
I also like the thumbnail images on the recent posts section, although I am finding it annoying that I have to put in the size of the image (64×64) every time I “define” the image. Maybe I am just not doing something right, but it would stand to reason that the image size would be adjusted without the need to specify the size every time.
One of the things I don´t like about the theme is the rather small width of the posts section. I will look into making this section larger without breaking the theme. It shouldn´t be too hard.
Anyway, if anyone notices any bugs, or has any suggestions please feel free to let me know.

you have a few alignment issues wht the ad blocks in Firefox.
Hi,
Thanks for the heads ups. Did you mean IE? I believe I have fixed it now, but the ads are too close together.
The site looks very nice! it’s way better than the last template. Although i would separate the square ads a little bit.
One thing I noticed:
In your sidebar it shows 3 tabs (Popular, Recent, and Comments). However when you click on an individual post it only shows Popular and Comments. I’m guessing it is just a change to your single.php file.
Good point.
It wasn´t part of the original theme, but I don´t see why it wouldn´t be an improvement.
thanks!
you make how much a year?? Mate, get yourself a better domain name! If you’re running out of ideas, give me a hoy and I’d be happy to flip one over to you.
Jerry
Took care of the domain name
sometimes we need a push!
Hi Fernandes, I also purchased this theme recently, but I really don’t know how to get the Thumbnail images working
If you can sort of detail how you got the small Thumbnail images to appear, I would be so grateful

Hi,
It isn´t hard once you figure it out.
When you are writing a post, at the bottom of that page it says “custom fields”. Choose the one that says “thumb” and then add the “value” for that field. The value should be the image location, along with the [ height=”64″ width=”64 ] to set the sizes. The value for the image location should look something like this (without the spaces I put in here):
http: // onlinemoneydot.com/ wp-content/uploads/2007/12/ forumslarge.gif”
After which you set the size to 64×64
Hi Fernandes,
Thanks, I just sent you an email. Just remember, if you want the page to be wider, the header, total page width, and the left hand column needs to be mathematically correct. That way the page won’t break and you can basically set any sensible value
